科学者と社会の在り方について、様々な議論が行われています。
本セミナーでは、議論の一角を占める科学コミュニケーションと呼ばれている分野について、オーストラリア国立大学科学意識向上センター所長のストックルマイヤー教授にお話しいただきます。

Why are so many of the world’s leading universities starting courses in science communication? In this seminar, Professor Sue Stocklmayer of the Australian National University will explain the importance of including science communication in the programs offered by a Faculty of Science.  The Australian National University was the first in the world to offer such courses and now has over 20 years experience in this emerging science discipline. The insights gained in effective communication of science to many and varied audiences, including the communication of research to the general public, have enabled graduates of the program to take up significant employment in Government and in scientific organisations.  The current world picture and the relevance of science communication to Japan will be discussed.

Sue Stocklmayer is the Director of the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) at the Australian National University.  CPAS is also the only UNESCO Centre for science communication.  She directs an extensive Graduate and Undergraduate Program in Science Communication.
　　Around Australia and internationally, Professor Stocklmayer has given workshops in science communication to over 500 practising research scientists, and to over 900 teachers in the creative presentation of science concepts. As part of the University’s outreach programs she has presented festival science shows, lectures and workshops on all five continents. 
　　Investigating issues related to science learning, both formal and informal, is her major research area.  She specialises in issues at the interface between science and the public and in gender and multicultural issues, and is experienced in innovative teaching methods. In the past ten years she has presented over 100 conference papers and seminars, including many international invited addresses. She is the co-Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Science Education Part B: Communication and Public Engagement. She was co-editor of the first text on Science Communication in Theory and Practice which was published by Kluwer International in 2001.  This book was translated into Japanese in 2003.  A second text, Communication and engagement with science and technology: Issues and dilemmas has just been published and a Japanese translation will follow.
　　Professor Stocklmayer was awarded the Order of Australia in 2004. She thinks that science communication is the best possible mixture, combining science, theatre (a lifelong interest), multicultural and gender issues and a host of other things at the interface between science and the public.  She also thinks that everyone can do physics.

京都大学理学研究科社会交流室

　「数学の森 in Kyoto」は、2013年3月28日（木）～29日（金）に開催されます。この催しは、未来の数学者として相応しい高校1、2年生を全国都道府県から招待し、個々の才能をより大きく開花させるきっかけを提供することが目的です。
　 参加者は、1日目に大学講義室で模擬授業を聴き、模擬授業の内容を問う試験を受け、自らの授業理解能力や、日頃からの数学能力の研鑽成果を試します。
　 2日目には、フィールズ賞を1990年に受賞した 数理解析研究所長の森 重文 教授による記念講演も開催します。
　 全国に散らばる数学能力の優れた高校生を集めるため、書類審査に合格し参加資格を得た高校生には、会場までの交通費の大部分の補助と宿泊所が提供されます。
　 数学能力を競う会で入賞したことがある高校生や数学に自信がある高校生は、ぜひとも参加してください。

対象：高等学校1年生～2年生で所属学校長の推薦を受け、書類審査で合格したもの（定員50名）
